Some Resolutions

No, I'm not just now making New Year's Resolutions. I'm just finally writing them down. I was just going to write them in my planner but decided to put them here for the whole internet to see. You'll hold me accountable won't you internet?

I love the fresh start that the new gives me, and I like to reevaluate and decide what I need to do better. This year I've decided I have a lot of work to do. When we moved into this house a year and a half ago I got everything unpacked pretty quickly. But you know how when you move to a new place, you rearrange things a couple of times until everythings in the spot that works best? And then you really feel settled. Well, two months after we moved in here, I was pregnant. And felt gross. For nine months. Then had a baby. Add four other kids to that and a husband in school full time. And life has been crazy. I feel like I've just been living. I'm not regressing but I'm not progressing either. And that's what life is about right? Progressing, improving. So that's my big goal this year...to progress and improve.

So I've broken it down into smaller goals. Here they are:

1. Spend time every day by myself to pray and meditate. Notice I didn't just say pray. Praying isn't hard for me. It's pretty easy to spend few minutes in prayer. I need to spend more time reflecting on the many blessings in my life and listening to the answers that God gives me. I know that my life is better when I do this and it's crazy that it gets pushed out of my routine. But I know that as I ask the Lord for His help every day and spend time with Him, every aspect of my life is better.

2. I want to read the Bible this year. Old and New Testament. From cover to cover. I've never done that before.

3. Get organized. I have five kids. This HAS to happen. I have already started the process of going through rooms and cleaning things out. I'll have some before and after pictures soon. We also have implemented a new chore system in our house. I'll let you know how that goes too.

4. Run a 5k. I wanted to do this in '07 but the whole baby thing happened. It probably won't happen until the fall when I get the Cowboy in school, but it will happen. For now I'll just keep going to the gym at least 3 days a week.

5. Plant a garden. I'll start small. Tomatoes, cucumbers, herbs.

6. Keep the garden alive. That could be tricky.

7. Live in the moment. Enjoy my kids. Too often I get too caught up in the chaos and mess that's involved in raising five kids. I've been thinking a lot lately about how fast they are growing and changing and I want to spend more time enjoying them. This year I want to make great memories with my kids.

So that's it. Now you all know what a mess I am in real life. If you have any great organization tips for me or gardening tips especially, leave me a comment. I hope everyone has a great 2009!

I have been wanting to write a post like this too, just hasn't happened yet. Are we related or what? Good luck on your goals! You can do it!

Sounds wonderful. I know you'll actually accomplish your goals.

My biggest gardening tip for those living in Ga is to get someone to shoot the squirrels cause they eat everything. I think we killed a total of 7 when we lived there. I had Mike cook one because I felt bad for killing them and chucking them but it was hardly worth the effort. Little tiny parts. Scooby snacks.

I admire your goals. I haven't made my real list yet, just thoughts floating around in my head.
