Tubin' the Hootch

July was the month for visitors at our house. My sister came the first weekend. The next weekend my brother Reed came on his way to Florida. He was meeting our oldest brother down there for some beach time.
We love it when Reed comes to visit. The last time they came I took them to IKEA. And obviously, they loved it. And wanted to go again. Reed was worried I wouldn't want to go since I went with Marlena the week before but it was unnecessary worry. I'm always up for a trip to IKEA.

We also went to the pool while they were here but mostly we just hung out, let the kids play and had a good time. Reed's girls are SO cute! They left Sunday and came back on Thursday. AND they brought Chad and his family!

Now there were 19 people in my house! Friday we went to Jump to It. And tried to come up with a plan for Saturday. We talked about a Braves game, Six Flags, we basically looked into everthing Atlanta offers for kids. But we were dealing with kids ages 14 months up to 13 years and wanted everyone to be happy. So, we decided to Tube the Hootch! We got up Saturday morning, packed a lunch, loaded the cars and headed north. We made a quick (and I mean record breaking quick) stop at IKEA. We all bought furniture. The back of our suburban was FULL. Three of our kids had to ride with cousins. Then we continued our trip to Helen, GA. And we met up with my cousin Ami along the way. After a picnic lunch we boarded the bus to head up river.

Quick side story. My Baby is TERRIFIED of all things inflatable. The pool has been um, interesting with him this summer. So I don't know why I didn't think of that when we made a plan to go tubing. We got off the bus and everyone rushed to this giant pile of pink tubes, and he finds himself totally surrounded and was freaking out! And then to make it even worse, we put a life jacket on him. He was not happy.

We hooked tubes together and started our float downriver. Baby is still freaking out and I realize the river is about 8 inches deep so I take off the lifejacket. He lays on my chest and is asleep in a matter of seconds. The water moved pretty slow and it was nice relaxing float until you got stuck on a rock. And there were a LOT of rocks in that river. Oh, and the water was freezing! And it took four hours to get down the river. So even though we were all tired and freezing it was a fun day. I can't speak for everyone else but I'd do it again.

Sixteen of the nineteen kids that went down the river with us. What a day!

I remember tubing with you and Mar when you stayed with me for a few days when you were kids. Man that was a long time ago.

Our neighbors did that a couple weeks ago. I think it would be fun. We've been thinking about going, but I'm not so sure about the freezing water for 4 hrs. I bet having all those cousins there made it a lot of fun.

Rockstars birthday looks like fun. You did a great job on the cake and the cupcakes looks professional too.

Oh that sounds like so much fun!! And, the Little Pet Shop party sounds like fun too!

And, yes, you can add me to your blog roll! I love reading your blog and seeing pictures of your family-your kids are precious!

Charlyce, we should tube the hootch together. If we use the other tubing company it's a shorter trip. We should have done that. Lesson learned.

Thanks Jenn. You're kids are cute too! Let me know next time you're in Atlanta!
