Day One

I thought my post about our weekend trip could be summed up in one post. But then I downloaded my pictures and realized I took over 400 shots. I won't share them all here.

Thanks to Caveman, we were able to go to Savannah again for All-State chorus. This year we took all of the kids. We found that Savannah isn't the most kid friendly city but we still had a good time. We arrived downtown at the Civic Center to get Caveman checked in and the little boys quickly found some seagulls to chase.

We left Caveman then walked a couple of blocks to purchase a parking permit. If you ever go to Savannah you should do this. It's only six bucks a day and you can park at any meter or city owned garage. We didn't do this last year. We will do it again. And parking is free on the weekends. Bonus! We got there and found out they needed our license plate number. We didn't know it. So we walked back to the car to get it. Then back to the visitors center. Then found out the permit didn't cover where we were parked so we walked back to the car again. That was when Rockstar decided that if Caveman ever gets to go to All-State again, she doesn't want to go.

We drove down to River Street. We heard there was a ferry that would take you across the river. And it was free! But we got distracted looking at boats and helicopters and souvenir shops.

It was such a gorgeous day. Low 80's. Breezy. Perfect. And when you're in Savannah, you're almost always in the shade of a giant Live Oak. I wondered if I lived there, would I ever get tired of looking at them?

We met up with Caveman and his group for dinner. We had pizza on the roof of the hotel. The boys had a lightsaber battle.

Looks like Cowboy won.

Caveman's chorus teacher likes to give the kids that go to All-State crazy sunglasses every year. She went all out this time.

The whole group.

After dinner we thought we would walk around a little more with the kids. We walked down Broughton Street. There are tons of stores and restaurants. Then we went to city market and looked at some art galleries. The kiddos were getting tired and whiny so we went back to the hotel for a couple of hours. Then we met up with Caveman and his group on River Street for ice cream.

There are always street performers on River Street and there was a man singing so Caveman and his buddy went over and started singing with him. A few seconds later there were tons of kids surrounding them singing Lean on Me. It was kind of cool.

Matt took the camera for a while and took some cool night time shots.

This little girl was exhausted! It was time to call it a night.
